Percolation, the board game

3
Roll greater than this to form a link

Play the game

Take a chessboard, a box of matches and a 6-sided die.

Starting with the top left square roll the dice once for the squares to the right and below. If the die rolls greater than, say, three then place a match between the centre of those squares. Continue along the top row repeating for the right and lower squares and then similarly for next row.

You win if the top and bottom rows connect. The bond percolation threshold for a square lattice, such as a chess board, is a probability of a half. i.e. When a threshold of three or less is used a spanning cluster is likely to form between the top and the bottom of the board.
