Play the game

Take two Go boards. On one place, say, 90 stones randomly at the intersection points. These stones represent cells which are alive. Count the number of stones at the 8 or less points that surround a point.

Add a stone at the corresponding point of the other board if either

• The count is 2 or 3 and the centre is full
• The count is 3 and the centre is empty

i.e. A cell dies of loneliness or overcrowding, or else a new cell is born. Then clear the old board and repeat.
